Halloween Party Day

Today I partnered with Skye. We scaled each other's teeth both anterior and posterior. I am feeling more and more confident with scaling each time I practice. I need to remember to lead with the toe of the instrument and use my fingers to roll, not my wrist as much. I also passed off two PEs today (Anterior scaling and the Intraoral Camera). I got to sleep in this am and that is great! It was a much more enjoyable day!

Curet

Today I was able to use my curet on the posterior teeth. I really like the Columbia! It is much easier to tell what end you are supposed to be using where. I was able to remove some calculus from my lab partner's molars. My lab partner also found a deposit on my maxillary second molars. What fun! My goal for next clinic is to pass off the Anterior Instrument PE.

Dental Screening PE

Today I passed off my Dental Screening PE as well as my Instrument ID PE. So, I am a little ahead of the game! I need to remember to chart furcations and tooth mobility in red. I also praciced scaling. I don't feel very confident in my scaler adaptation right now, but I am sure hoping that I will get better with practice. I am also having to get aquainted with my loupes. They are working out really well...my posture is much better. Next clinic I hope to pass off my Adaptation/Angulation PE.

A Full Day

Today we went through pretty much everything we have learned since day one. On my patient I went over their HHX and HHXRX, performed an extra and intra oral exam, disclosed, and scaled. It was fun going over everything and seemed that everything flowed pretty well. I was hoping on passing off my Dental Screening PE today, but it looks like I will have to do that next clinic. I also need to practice more on adapting the scaler.

Today in clinic we learned how to use a scaler. I really enjoyed scaling because I was able to see the positive effects of scaling. My lab partner and I both worked on our problem areas of calculus build-up, the mandibular anteriors on the lingual. I learned different ways of fulcruming in order to provide the correct pressure I needed to remove the calculus. I finally fulfilled my goal of passing off my Explorer and Probe PE. I will try to prepare myself for passing off my Dental Screening PE for next time.

Disclosing

Today we used our disclosing solution to detect areas of plaque on the teeth. I was able to show my clinic partner the areas she was missing when brushing and flossing. I also found out that I was flossing incorrectly and this was probably why I have plaque buildup on the mesial and distal areas of my teeth. My goal for today was to pass off my Explorer PE, but we never got around to it because of the time it took to probe. So, my goal for next time is to pass off my Explorer PE.

Bad Day!

Well, I found out during clinic today that I have six suspicious carious lesions and one confirmed carious lesion. I can't believe it!! AHHH!! Anyway, it turned out to be very informative and it seems that I need to go see my Dentist! My goal for today was to pass of my explorer PE but I never got around to it. So, my goal for next week is to pass off this PE.

October 2

Well, a new month has begun!! Today I practiced probing on Jamey and learned how to write my probe measurements on my laminated paper. I did pretty well with my measurements, but it was sometimes difficult to read the probe. I think my loupes will definitely help with this!! I can't wait to get them! I also passed off my instrument grasp today and am planning on passing off my explorer PE next clinic.
