Probe

My goal for today was to learn how to use my probe. I learned the sequence for probing and how many measurements I need for each tooth. I was also able to practice using my explorer some more. I feel alot more confident about exploring after today. I am adapting better and hardly made Sheri bleed! My goal for next week is to pass off my instrument grasp PE.

Fulcrum

My goal for today was to prevent my pinky finger from getting involved in my fulcruming. I have noticed that the lateral side of my right hand is starting to ache. To prevent my pinky movement, I taped my ring finger and pinky together. This really allowed me to notice how much I try to involve my little finger. Kind of silly, but VERY serious! :) I was also able to pass off two of my PE's (fulcruming and the intra-oral exam). I feel "ahead of the game" and this is grrreat.

Exploring the Explorer

My goal for today was to orient myself with the explorer. I practied on Kimber today and she was a wonderful patient. I learned two different techniques as far as sequencing goes. I haven't decided which one I will use yet. I was also able to incorporate my clock positions into today's lesson and this proved to be a very good review.

Health History PE

My goal for today was to pass off my Vital Signs PE and my Health History PE. I managed to get a passing grade on both of these! Completing a health history in clinic really helped me remember what information is important in a patient's health history. I found it very beneficial to get quick feedback. Everything seems to be going well. I am ahead on my PE's and this feels great!

What a Day!

Today I had Radiology clinic and Dental Hygiene clinic. I am nearing the end of my school day and my mind feels a little tired. Although we went over some pretty basic things in both clinics, we covered quite a bit of material. We were able to do actual x-rays in radiology today and that was really fun. However, it gets kind of frustrating that it takes so long to see how your x-rays turn out. I practiced my clock positions in DH clinic today and I feel even better about them. I was able to get a few questions clarified. Another challenge for me today was taking blood pressures. I still am having a hard time hearing the initial sound. Tonight I am going to take my blood pressure stuff home so I can practice on my neighbors!

Second Clinic

My goal for today was to pass off my PE with flying colors! My goal was met and I passed! I talked with Jamey about her medical history and learned how to chart medications (name, dosage, etc.) and blood pressure. This information will assist me in my Case Study for Dental Hygiene class. My Drug Reference book taught me vital information concering the medications that I use. Overall, today was very informative.
