Mock Patient Day TWO

I was the patient today and Chanci cleaned my teeth. She did a wonderful job with my lower linguals! I also passed off my very last PE of my first semester...quite an accomplishment! My goal for next clinic is to do well cleaning my mom's teeth. She is my first patient and already has anxiety when it comes to the dental chair.

Mock Patient Day!

All I can say is, "Thank goodness for mock patient day." It was really nice running through all the procedures. I feel that I am pretty ready to go for my patient on Wednesday. I need to remember to print out my treatment plan at the OD Check and to remove all the soft deposits when I scale. Otherwise, I can't wait until Wednesday!

Emergency Procedure

Today we went through the Emergency kit in the Instructor area. We learned what needs to be administered for what kind of "episode" whether it be an allergic reaction or a heart condition. We also went over how we are supposed to act in an emergency situation. I was one of the actors and pretended that I was a 60 year-old male with massive chest pain. I was also able to pass off my Sealant PE. Jamey has been our pod's sealant patient!! I will not be here on Wednesday, sadly. Talk to you Monday! Happy Thanksgiving!

Seal it, Baby!

Today we learned how to place sealants. I placed one in Jamey's mouth and enjoyed every minute of it. I was taken back to my Ortho days of etching and cement. I was also able to pass off my Air Powder Polish PE. Because I used the Air Powder Polisher, I had to etch twice...I thought that was interesting. My goal for next time is to pass off my Sealant PE. Anyway, I am really looking forward to the Thanksgiving break!

Air Powder Day!

Today we used the Air Powder Polisher. Sheri was able to get rid of one of my coffee stains. Wahoo! I guess I should stop drinking it, but once it touches your lips...so good! Ha. I also used the Air Powder Polisher on her. I did all right with it, not great. I also passed off my instrument sharpening PE and practiced probing, exploring, and scaling. Next clinic I plan on passing off the Air Polisher.

Sharpening

Today we learned how to properly sharpen our instruments. I learned about the angles we need to use and how to adapt the instrument, esp the toe. I also was able to pass off my fluoride PE today on Jen. Sheri asked me the questions! Next clinic I plan on passing off my Sharpening PE. After this class, I have my radiology test and that should be fun!;) I'm a little nervous for it!

Fluoride

Today we had the opportunity to apply fluoride to our pt's teeth. Before I used the fluoride, I was able to remove some bracket (Orthodontic) cement from my pt's tooth. She very much appreciated this! I feel that I am really getting the hang of using the scaler. I was able to pass off my selective polishing PE today. I made sure to reach the gingival margin and to also go interproximal. My goal for next clinic is to pass off my fluoride PE.

November 1

November, wahoo! We are almost done with our first semester! Today we partnered with our pod and went through Health History, OHI, and OD. We also did selective polishing. I polished the right side of my partner's mouth and toothbrushed the other. She didn't notice a difference between the two. My goal is to remember to use little pressure and speed. Also, to make sure that I go interproximal with the prophy cup and up to the gingival margin. I was also able to scale a little and completed my Universal Instrumentation PE. I scheduled Jamey as my Mock patient on November 27, two days before my Mom comes to visit and becomes my first victim! ;) I look forward to seeing patients, but I am kind of nervous that I won't be able to find patients. I am sure it will all work out in the end!
