Requirements are Done!

Wahoo! Today I finished the rest of my requirements! In the AM I had a Class 1A and was able to complete the Caries Risk Assessment PE. In the PM I was able to complete the last two quads of my Class 3 patient and was able to complete my Periodontal File PE and my Perio. Medicament PE (Arestin). I was able to finish early and practice anesthesia with Chanci. I practiced a PSA and an Infiltration. I need to work on my angles and verbage! Overall, today was very productive. Next week is Mock Boards...I hope that goes well!

Lab/1A and PE's

Today we spent the morning session working on hand intrumentation, accessory fulcrums, and periodontal medicaments (I learned about PerioChip and how you can only place this medicament in a pocket greater than 5mm). I thought this was very beneficial and it was nice to take a break from the hustle-and-bustle of AM clinic.
In the afternoon, I saw a 1A patient (10 years old) and she was difficult to work on. She wouldn't hold still and kept grabbing my suction and water. I was very frustrated! In addition, I had to do nine sealants and she whined the whole time! AHH. It also seems that children have really short attention spans... :)
Luckily, I was able to pass off two PE's (Diagnodent and Air Powder Polish). It's nice to have these out of the way! I learned today, or maybe I should have known, that the powder (Sodium Bicarbonate) for the air powder polish is alkaline. The etch, which is acidic, conteracts this and aids in the preperation for sealants.

Class 3

Last Thursday I got another Class 3 patient and declared an exam. I was able to complete 2 quads and he will be coming back in two weeks to finish the last 2 quads. I took vertical bitewings on this patient and this really allowed me see the extent of the bone loss. As of right now, I need to schedule another 1A patient to finish up my requirements.

VA today

Today I got my prayers answered and was able to get 4 more quads of a Class 3 at the VA. So, right now I just need 4 more quads of a Class 3, as well as an exam, at Weber. Then, I will be all done! I already have over 17 extra quads...oh, but I do need my 1A's. I think I will have a Class 3 pt at Weber on Thursday so that will be exciting!

X-ray Day!

Today I completed 4 PA's on my Mock Board patient and 14 PA's on my Mom. I was supposed to have a 1A patient come as well, but he didn't show up.
I didn't do as well as I would have liked to on my Mom's PA's. I didn't get enough of the apices and so they weren't as diagnosic as I would have liked. I retook the Mx molar and premolar shots, but couldn't get the Md because her mouth is too narrow and shallow. Oh well, I still passed and Prof. Alexander gave me a few pointers on how to insert the x-ray into the mouth, etc. This will definitely help me in the future!
